Creative Connections September 2017

We just held our 3rd annual Creative Connections here in Minnesota! There were 273 demonstrators in attendance, tons of ideas on display, lots of swapping, several prizes given out, and many great presentations.

Terri Gaines (one of the presenters today and the mastermind behind this great event), Susan Campfield (another presenter and the one who works the camera), Georgia Giguere (the organizer of presenters and MC) and Patsy Waggoner (the organizer of registrations and prizes) put a ton of work into pulling this all together for us! Wish I would've gotten better photos.

I presented for a few minutes on stage about one of my absolute favorite products, Paper Pumpkin kits.

Sandy Carlson had so many fantastic things to share in her presentation. I think she brought it all in a U-Haul. LOVE this gal!!! And we got to sit next to each other.

I got to spend some fun quality time with fellow demonstrator Mary Haugen, co-owner of Stamp-n-Storage. She is such a sweetheart!

We were missing a few who registered and couldn't make it and a few who didn't get in on the photo (and of course the larger number who live far and couldn't make it), but look at our fantastic group!!! I love these wonderful individuals - my stampin' sisters who are all somewhere in the lineage from my upline, Susan Campfield).

Gotta get silly too - here I am with Nancy Reynolds, Jean Eckman, Tricia Josephs (in front) and Cheryl Lee. Our Stampers With ART group is so much fun! I treasure these friendships.

Here I am with Dawn Olchefske, my talented friend and birthday twin (LOL) who demonstrated fun ideas with our glossy cardstock and reinkers.

Fellow demonstrator from Wisconsin, Lisa Pretto always has such great advice, tips and ideas. I LOVE her and have always learned from her Ink Big Academy trainings I've attended (my favorite was her Masters Retreat that I was a part of in October 2014). She is one smart lady.

Fellow demonstrator from Tennesee, Julie Salva was our motivational speaker who almost got us rolling on the floor with laughter AND brought us to tears when she spoke from her heart. She's a true star and will always shine in my world.

Stampin' Up!'s Carrie Warner from Utah attended and shared, too!! She's very creative, and our jaws all dropped when she turned a mitten die into a penguin!

I've been dying to share all the pillow gifts & prizes we got while we were on the Thailand Incentive trip! They include products that will be available to purchase in this Holiday Catalog. Fun, fun, fun! I took a photo each day on our trip of the fabulous goodies I got. The night we arrived (late Sunday) there was a beautiful basket of fruit. And then these were the items I was gifted each of the following days.

I was sitting with fellow demonstrator Tanja Kolar when I was making this first one, and I fell in love with her more striking version. So this card below is one that I CASEd from her.

Then I did the same thing with my remaining cards and tags...made them different than the samples in the directions. LOL Why not, right?

Thailand Achievers Blog Hop July 2017: Single Waterfall Card

 

Welcome to another Thailand Achievers Blog Hop! The theme for this month is: Thailand Incentive Trip Highlights. So follow along and check out all the other blogs in the hop (click on the names of other participants in the list below) so you can see the fun we all had on our 2017 Stampin' Up! incentive trip. 

One of the highlights of ANY Stampin' Up! event is swapping. So I thought I'd first share with you my Thailand swap card. Then if you keep scrolling, you'll see photos of some the fun I had when we were 1/2 way around the world!

My swap card was this single waterfall card.

Pull on the string, and the top flap flips open.

It's a pretty detailed one to explain (with LOTS of measurements). So instead of writing it all out, I recorded a live video yesterday on Facebook to share with you all here. Watch it by clicking on the image below. Then let me know if you have any questions. 

Here is my original (on the right) with the one I made during this video (on the left) and the extra one I mention in the video wanting to make without the extra Soft Suede cardstock layer (in the middle).

And though this card is complicated to explain without a video, it really wasn't that difficult to make a bunch of them for the swap. You can see below that each section of my card was done for all 26 cards one at a time. So for example, I cut out all the copper leaves, then I cut my Linen Thread. And so on. It is so worth the time to make swaps, because now I have 25 cards from other demonstrators ready to put up in my classroom for inspiration! Yay!

 

And now for the highlights of my Thailand trip!

The love of my life, Tim joined me. In this photo we are visiting the place where the movie, The Beach (with Leonardo DiCaprio) was filmed.

This excursion took us to all sorts of beautiful sites. I think we took a zillion photos just while we were boating from place to place. But this one below was one of my favorites. We had pretty good weather this day.

Part of that day also included snorkeling, seeing fantastic rock formations, lunch on a beach...

...and swimming in beautiful blue waters.

On another day we went on an excursion zip-lining through the rainforest. I used to lead groups through a high ropes course when I was 21 (my summer job). And since then I've enjoyed trying out zip-lining when I can. This course was very impressive, though...THE best one I've ever experienced!

Midway through the week Stampin' Up! took us all on a special excursion that included visiting other fantastic caves, rock formations (including this famous one that was featured in a James Bond movie)...

...the floating village and more.

I LOVED canoeing through this cave!

The excursion that day ended with lunch and swimming on a beach that seemed to be set aside just for us. Stampin' Up! provided a fancy buffet lunch that seemed to have endless food and beverages.

Here I am with Cheryl Lee, a first time trip achiever in my Stampers With ART Stars group. What a blast is was to be on this trip with her!

And here we are with Susan Campfield, my direct upline. I still can't believe they convinced me to lay down in the sand when my suit was already wet from swimming. Hahaha! (I don't like to get dirty and I whined quite a bit.)

Stampin' Up! spoiled us with a grand event the last evening, too. We were welcomed by Stampin' Up! employees, many from Thailand in beautiful costumes and elephants!

In this photo below, one of the elephants is reaching out and touching my hand. (Susan took the photo not realizing the elephant was making contact with me at the time.) So cool!!

The decorations, the entertainment and the food were amazing!

I even enjoyed some fresh coconut water.

 

Oh! I need to show you my room!

We were spoiled!! Tim and I stayed in a two-bedroom loft that boasted a kitchen, a bathroom, a walk-out deck, a dining area and a living room on the first level. Then the next level up had our master bedroom and bathroom looking out into the lagoon. Above that was the second bedroom with two beds and another bathroom that looked out at part of the resort's pool.

And then at the very top was another deck. Had it not been so hot and humid (July is the rainy season there), we probably would've enjoyed a meal or two up there.

We got pillow gifts, prizes and more throughout the week. I took photos of everything, but I can't share many of them because they feature new products that I can't show yet. I can show this photo though. It was the first gift we received from Stampin' Up!... A basket of local fruits were in the room when we arrived. And it lasted us the whole week.

Here I am eating rambutan. Yum!!

We didn't venture outside the resort except for when we were on our excursions and for a dinner with Susan, her son Joe, Cheryl and her friend Jayne. But the resort itself was huge! There were parts we never saw. And the landscaping was so beautiful - filled with local plants, birds, geckos, and interesting insects like this bee!

Each day we could go to Stampin' Up!'s hospitality room to win prizes, eat treats, get drinks, look at swaps on display and visit. Look! More rambutan. I loved those fuzzy fruits!!

There were several more swap boards, but I have got to stop somewhere. LOL

Crafternoon Tea Event, Gifts & Projects

About a month back I attending a "Crafternoon Tea" event put on by my upline, Susan Campfield. She spoiled all of us there with delicious food, make-n-take projects and gifts. It was SO relaxing! And it was wonderful spending time with my sister demonstrators so we could share ideas and catch up on each other's lives. Thanks so much, Susan!

Here are photos of that fun day.

Susan had the luncheon part all set up when we arrived. Each person had a personalized acrylic frame next to their place setting. Tricia is in the first photo smiling for me while I took a picture of the beautifully decorated tables.

Here I am with my sweet upline, Susan.

Carole (above) is just as excited as I am for this marvelous event. And below are Mary, Carole, Anita and Nancy. We all oooooed and aaahhhed at the marvelous food that Susan had prepared for us.

And so much of it was grain and dairy free! (I loved that!!)

Make-n-take time!! Going from left to right are Nancy, Mary, Susan B (way in the back), Sandy, Anita and Carole. (Nancy has her back to us at the Big Shot station.) I just love all these ladies!

I thought about sharing these pictures of the Crafternoon Tea last month right after it took place, but I didn't want to "tease" you with all the new products when the catalog hadn't been released yet. I had a hard time waiting to share about all the fun from OnStage, so on April 10th I posted LOTS including photos of the new 2017-19 In Colors (with comparisons to past/present colors) and photos of the display boards. And so that's what I decided to use to make my two projects that I'm sharing with you today in this hop. I made a 12x12 scrapbook page layout that will be PERFECT for photos from our fun that our family has up at the lake.

 

And I made a greeting card to share with you today.

Both of my projects were made with products from this Eastern Palace Suite which was just made available to us demonstrators this month. I have to confess, I completed my projects a few days ago. But I wasn't happy. So Monday morning I decided to change my pages. This is what I originally had...

The pages seemed unfinished and didn't have enough contrast. I didn't like that my sun was so low on the page either. So along with all the other page elements on the left page, I started to peel it up. Well...these stickers are strong little buggers! I ended up trashing that sticker and flipping my 12x12 cardstock over before reassembling.

I like this SO-O-O-O much better! And adding the extra Whisper White photo mats and the sailboat (on the right page) made me even happier.

The sailboat gave the page a title and emphasized how I was trying to make a lake from the torn strips of designer paper. In this photo below you can see that I didn't need an extra circle punch. Instead I ran the stamped cardstock through my Big Shot with this die. That created a scored circle. Then I just trimmed along the score line and cut straight across for the top of the boat. (For the sail, I just cut the stamped image with my Paper Snips all the way around.)

When I add my page journaling in the future, I'll type out what I want to say on the computer so it fits within the inside of this yellow tab. Then I'll print that journaling onto Whisper White cardstock and add it so that the gold stickers still show all the way around.

• Daffodil Delight Cardstock: 2-1/4" tall strip for journaling piece & scrap for sun

When I first saw my Eastern Palace Bundle of products, I immediately fell in love with the dies and I saw snowflakes, the sun and of course... flowers. I know it's not fall yet, but this sunflower was begging to be shared. I made this card, and then I saw a similar card...

...shared by Maralee Ross in one of my demonstrator Facebook groups. Too funny that our thoughts went on such similar paths. I like the way she created her stem!

For my stem I tucked a piece of Wild Wasabi cardstock under the bottom right side of the Wood Texture Designer Paper (also new product from the 2017-18 Annual Catalog being released on June 1st). The leaves were cut with yet another one of the Eastern Medallion Thinlits dies. Crazy, right?  You can really think outside the box with this bundle!

Measurements:

• Garden Green Cardstock: 4-1/4" x 11"
• Crumb Cake Cardstock: two pieces that are 4" x 5-1/4" (one for the inside)
• Early Espresso Cardstock: 2" circle piece
• Wild Wasabi Cardstock: 2-3/4" x 1/2" and scrap for die-cutting leaves
• Daffodil Delight Cardstock: scrap for die-cutting flower
• Wood Texture Designer Paper: 1-3/4" x 5-1/4"

 

Oh!! OnStage!! Okay...I don't have too many more photos from that event to share since I shared most of them on April 10th, but here are the goodies I brought home with me. This first photo is what everyone at the Minneapolis location received: a bag with several pockets, 2 pens, a name badge with a lanyard, a commemorative pin, two soon-to-be-new stamp sets, a 6-month planner/notebook with several pages for writing, a packet of sticky notes, and of course...the NEW CATALOG!

This second photo shows our four make-n-take projects, my prize stamp set (Just Add Text), and the extra product from our table that I got to take home!

And this last photo shows the items that I took back from CentreStage (which is a special leadership event for Silver Elite+ demonstrators): an apron, a stamp set and the souvenirs from the table.

And so that's what I decided to use to make my two projects that I'm sharing with you today in this hop. I made a 12x12 scrapbook page layout that will be PERFECT for photos from our fun that our family has up at the lake.

 

And I made a greeting card to share with you today.
