I have been on pins and needles as I watch all the hurricane news unfold. First Harvey, then Irma. And I hear there is possibly another coming?! Though I am up here in "safe little Minnesota", just know that there are so many of us all over who are sending positive thoughts and prayers to all who are rebuilding, caring for the injured, rescuing, suffering, worrying, and living through this all.

It seems like lots of people I know are having babies right now. I needed to make a few cards and came up with this cute window card using the stamp set called "A Little Wild."

Here are the measurements and a few directions for putting this cute baby card together.

Measurements:

• Smoky Slate Cardstock: 8-1/2" x 5-1/2" folded in half for the card base
• Shimmery White Cardstock: 4" x 5-1/4" and scraps for stamping & cutting out 1-3/8" circle piece and the flower
• Garden Green Cardstock:2-1/2" x 4"
• Smoky Slate Gingham Ribbon: about 16"

Directions:

• Emboss the front of the card base piece.
• Emboss the Garden Green.
• Stamp the sentiment. Punch it out with the 1-3/8" Circle punch.
• Stamp the flower and cut it out with coordinating framelit.
• Stamp the elephant images so the top of the elephants are about 2-1/4" up from the bottom of the 4" x 5-1/4" vertical Shimmery White piece. Cut out the elephants with the coordinating die.

• Punch a 2-1/4" Circle in the Smoky Slate card front (bring the punch in from the side, not the bottom) so the circle is in the bottom right corner and punched about 5/8" from the bottom.
• Attach the Garden Green layer to the 4" x 5-1/4" Shimmery White so the green conceals the hole in the Shimmery White piece. Adhere this white piece to the inside of the card.  (When the card is closed, you should only see Garden Green through the 2-1/4" circle. (My green is attached to the Shimmery White about 1/4" from the bottom.)

• Fold the elephant, trim the notch at the top off, and color using the Watercolor Pencils and Blender Pen.
• Color the flower, too. Trim around the flower, and attach it to the elephant. Add a rhinestone.
• Add LOTS of adhesive to the backs of both the front and back elephant images. Attach him to the lower right area of the card folding him so that the front of the elephant shows entirely on the front of the card and the back of the elephant shows entirely on the inside of the card.
• Attach the 1-3/8" sentiment circle piece so that when the card is closed the elephant hides it.
• Then tie on the ribbon.

By the way for those who have been wondering about my health, I am healing well.

I have felt a super fast recovery from a second surgery that I had on August 28th. LOL...yes, I didn't really tell you about that one yet. (I had TWO surgeries in August. That one was for my bladder. I figured it was best to do it all in one month's time before things got busy with the kids in school activities.)

And though the recovery from my August 7th gum surgery has been much slower, the Periodontist told me last week that everything looks fabulous - much better than most at this stage. Yay! I am brushing, but with a super soft brush and I am occasionally chewing food on that side of the mouth. And it feels good to be "fixed!"

Color Theory Memories & More Pages and Boys' First Day Pics

Yesterday was my boys' first day of school for the 2017-18 school year.

Luke is a big 5th grader now - among to oldest in his elementary school. How did my baby get that big!?

And Nick is now a 6th grader - in his first year of middle school and loving it. With his new hairstyle, he is looking like a teenager already. My goodness!

Here they are waiting at their bus stops. Not too many other kids at the stops today, but Luke's group will grow. We just didn't have everyone here today.

And then to be silly, the boys posed together this morning and tried to duplicate how they posed 5 years ago in this picture of them when Luke was just starting kindergarten.

Okay...Are you are feeling behind like me?...had lots of fun this summer, but now that the kids are in school and the weather is getting cooler, you're realizing you have to get those memories into the books before you forget about them.

It's time to pull out the Memories and More kits and those pocket pages. I'm serious, too! This is one of THE quickest ways for hands-on paper crafters to get those pages done. And unlike the flat digital books, you can still embellish, hand-write your journaling, and include memorabilia too.

Came Home to Birthday Cards!

I don't get up there every year for my birthday, but this year I was lucky to again spend several days at my favorite place on earth...the lake.

My parents bought the land on this beautiful lake when I was 5 years old. Our family started out by just camping on the property in our 2-room tent practically every weekend several summers in a row. (Great memories! I especially loved it when my dad would do shadow puppets just before bed...after killing all the mosquitoes in the tent, of course.) My dad eventually built a basement level cabin on the land in the side of a hill - the front part facing the lake was completely above the earth, the back was almost completely under earth. (We'd go to the back at the top of the hill and climb the slanted roof, lay down on our backs, and look at the stars at night during those years.) When I was in my late 20's, Dad dropped the roof and starting building more levels. Finally in the fall of 2016, my mom and dad retired and moved up there after their log home was finally finished.

And that's where I took my boys (and their friend Carter) August 12-16. The boys had a blast catching frogs...

...and fish. They loved showing off their catches, but they also released them back into their environments so gently. (I'm a proud mama!)

This was a fish that my dad caught, but Nick was too excited NOT to be the one holding it.

I had a lot of time to relax. And the weather was pretty awesome, so I was able to relax on the dock while the boys were swimming quite a bit.

My husband Tim stayed at home. He couldn't take more days off since we had already used up many of his vacation days in June and July. He painted the living room though! Yay, Tim!)

 

When we came home Wednesday night, I found a bunch of mail waiting for me...a big pile of birthday cards! Yay!

Hope you like seeing them as much as I did when I opened them. :)

Fresh Florals meets the July Kit

I'm sorry I haven't shared in a few days. I was planning to, but got a little side-tracked by my upcoming surgery. It was a minor one, but yesterday morning I had tissue grafting dental surgery for my two teeth with receded gums.

I was pretty anxious in the days leading up to it. But I GUESS it all went well. ;) Thank goodness my dad stayed home with my boys and my mom was with me. I was quite out of it with the meds they gave me. I guess I told the medical staff some funny stories when I would occasionally wake up during the surgery. (Wish I knew what I told them!) My mom drove us home, made sure I could walk into the house, and took care of me and my boys the rest of the day while I took several naps.

I'm still very swollen in the jaw area, but I'm feeling pretty good today. So I'm ready to hop on my computer. :)

I have a few cards and a Memories & More page to share with you that I made a few days back with the contents of the Positively Picturesque July 2017 Paper Pumpkin kit and the new 2017-19 In Color Designer Paper, Fresh Florals.

This is a great pack of paper for this kit, because the kit itself coordinates with 3 of the 5 colors: Tranquil Tide, Powder Pink and Lemon Lime Twist. The other two colors in this set of papers (Fresh Fig and Berry Burst) can still work with this kit, too (as you can see in the above heart cards).

I accented each of these cards with some silver metallic thread and a coordinating Bitty Bow.

Here is another project where I combined the Positively Picturesque July 2017 Paper Pumpkin kit and Fresh Florals. These items below are 6" x 4" and 3" x 4" pieces for a Memories & More page layout.

For the upper left photo window piece I took a 2"x 4" piece of Tranquil Tide designer paper and added it onto the bottom portion of a window card layer from the kit to extend it and make it 6" tall. Grid Paper helped with this task. I then cut a strip of from the kit's Powder Pink sticker sheet that was 1/8" x 4" and added it above the designer paper. Attaching three rhinestones was the last step to making this super easy page element.

For the upper right piece I cut one of the full blue note cards from the kit down. I first trimmed it perpendicular to the score line at 4" and then I trimmed it parallel to the score line at 6". I positioned it so that the score line was on the lower half, added one of the circle pieces (with a strip of pink washi tape), and then stuck on a strip from the kit's Powder Pink sticker sheet that was 3/8" thick (torn on one end).

I embossed the love wooden element with Silver emboss powder (twice to get is a smoother silver), stamped the "YOU", added the wooden element, and then attached a large rhinestone.

For the lower middle piece I took a 3"x 4" piece of Powder Pink designer paper and added a layer of cardstock with Dimensionals that I stamped and taped first. This piece of white cardstock is actually from a section of the flip side of the blue card from the kit that I had cut down for the upper right piece.

It's almost time for lunch. Yay...another smoothie? :/

Actually I like smoothies a lot. It's only day 2 but I am starting to miss chewing. This is one of my favorite smoothie recipes. I had it yesterday and for breakfast this AM.

• 1 scoop Garden of Life chocolate organic plant protein powder
• 1/4 cup Fajé yogurt
• 1 cup almond milk
• 1/2 cup cold water
• 7-8 ice cubes
• 5 drops Stevia
• 1 cup frozen cherries
• 1/2 cup fresh spinach leaves

I might try a scrambled eggs with avacado right now instead, though.

50 Shades of Stampin' Up! from Germany

My husband and I returned from our international travels late Thursday night (on July 20th). I meant to share photos here on my blog yesterday of some of the fun, but it's been harder than I thought to "get back into the groove." Jet lag? Catching up? Moving at a vacationer's pace? Not sure why. But I do know that we had a MARVELOUS time, and I'm so excited to share!

We took off on July 8th and traveled literally half-way around the world to Phuket, Thailand for the 2017 Stampin' Up!® incentive trip! And then on July 15th we continued our travels to Germany, staying with my friend, Silvia Werner, and her family, for an extension to our vacation. (Silvia is a Stampin' Up! demonstrator from Germany. We met four years ago in Salt Lake City, Utah during convention and have been good friends ever since).

Even though Germany was the last half of the trip, I thought I'd share a few photos/highlights from there first, along with a project I made at Silvia's house. And then in a couple of days I will share some photos from Thailand.

Silvia's family is amazing! They bent over backwards to make sure we had a good time. Each day was filled with fun experiences including tasty foods, beautiful buildings, and amazing scenery.

Silvia also attended the Thailand incentive trip, but we arrived in Germany before she did. So that gave us a great excuse to visit Maxie Krebs, another German demonstrator friend of mine living near Frankfurt. It was so fun spending a couple hours with her!

She even let me peek into her craft room. (Click on this photo to see the German cardstock color names!).

We had a rental car, so after Maxie led us back to the airport (bless her heart!) to get Silvia, we said good-bye to Maxie, and then we hopped on the Autobahn and took off for Silvia's home.

We were all a little tired from our flights, but not tired enough to nap. So after getting settled in, we went out to eat some real German food. Everyone in Silvia's family speaks English very well. And her oldest daughter did such a great job the whole trip, deciphering items on the menus and ingredients in foods for me so I could avoid gluten and other things to which I am sensitive. Tim on the other hand, tried ALL kinds of traditional German foods (and beer!).

Our guest room was also Silvia's craft room/office area on the top floor of the house, with a beautiful view of Petersberg and beyond.

We looked forward to breakfast each morning because Silvia would put out all sorts of goodies. These were just a few of the things we woke up to each day, but she would also put out cheeses and fruits, lots of other fresh breads, eggs and yogurt (for me!).

On our first full day there (Monday) we explored the charming neighboring town of Fulda.

I loved the fachwerkhaus architecture in many of the buildings!

It was also fun to just shop and see what was in their stores.

Silvia told us that one of the traditions is to give your young children (especially those starting kindergarten) one of these cones filled with school supplies and treats for their first day of school.

The Fulda Cathedral was amazing!

That evening we went out and ate dinner at a beer garden. Tim enjoyed trying lots of different German beers, and this evening just added to this fun experience for him.

On Tuesday we hiked through a forest outside of Petersberg to an old church at the top of a tall hill that had a gorgeous 360 degree view.

We then visited a small airfield in the hills where people flew gliders,

and we browsed the many shops around the airfield.

We finished with one more stop - an old monastery in Bavaria, where they brew their own beer.

On Wednesday we relaxed in the early part of the day. Silvia let me make a fun project in her craft room... a frame showing off the "50 Shades of Stampin' Up!"

And though she already had a couple, she made an extra.

Each of the 49 1" x 1" colors and are on a 9" x 9" cardstock mat (the 50th color) and placed in a Ribba frame from Ikea.

And then she gifted me with even more... a fabulous bag, one of her Thailand swap cards, a German catalog, and a Paper Trimmer with metric measurements!!

I was overjoyed!!

Then it was time to drive to Frankfurt. Silvia had a concert to attend that evening, and it was our time to explore the big city a bit on our own. Plus, we had been invited (by Axel Kramer, the director of the European Stampin' Up! market) while we were in Thailand to stop by and visit the new Stampin' Up! home office that was now located near the airport in Frankfurt.

So of course we did!! And Silvia took her 50 Shades of Stampin' Up! project with the black mat as a gift. It was so exciting to meet the employees and see this beautiful place - still quite small compared to Riverton headquarters in Utah, but I guess so much better and more beautiful than their previous location. I was impressed! And how fun that I can now say I was the first American demonstrator to see it. :D

I feel bad that I don't remember everyone's names, but they were all so warm & welcoming to us!

It was fun to see Jasmin Schroeter again. (She was in Thailand with us in charge of the make-n-takes in the Inspiration Room.)

We spent our last evening in the city of Frankfort, seeing old buildings mixed in with the new, visiting some of the shops, having dinner, and people-watching.

We'd love to go back someday soon! Germany was so wonderful!! And we were super blessed to have had this experience.
